Club Projects

Throughout the year the Kiwanis Club of Gimli & District undertakes many activities.  The following represents some core projects we undertake.

Kiwanis members are active in youth sports coaching in minor hockey, baseball, soccer, curling and volleyball.

Twice annually in late May and early October, club members pick up debris on a stretch of Provicial Road #222 and Hwy #9 as part of the Adopt-A-Highway program.

For eight weeks each year, members deliver meals-on-Wheels three times a week to as many as 16 community members.

Bi-annually in the Fall, our Club hosts a Scottish Performing Arts concert which involves publicity, ushering, collecting admission and serving lunch to performers.

Later in the year, we co-sponsor a Manitoba Theatre Centre (MTC) drama.  Our Club's involvement includes publicity, selling advance tickets, collecting admission and assisting the travelling drama troupe in setting up and dismantling the stage.

In June of each year, members serve a wind-up BBQ to approximately 45 mentally challenged adults (Aktion Club), and on another evening, to 30 mentally challenged children.

In addition to purchasing the groceries, Gimli & District Kiwanians cook and serve hot dogs, hamburgers/cheeseburgers and socialize with patrons.

In mid-December we host a Christmas party for the children and grandchildren of member Kiwanians and the local Fire Department.

The party includes candy bags, gifts, hot dogs and chips - and of course, a visit from Santa!

On Christmas Day, in partnership with the Gimli Seniors Resource Council, we serve a hot nutritious dinner to approximately 25 less fortunate residents of our community at a local hotel.

Transportation to the dinner is provided to patrons who need assistance, and meals are delivered to shut-ins who are unable to leave their homes.  Members sing Christmas carols and socialize with their guests.

In the Objects of Human and Spiritual Values, several Kiwanis members transport cancer patients to Winnipeg hospitals for treatment, visit patients in hospitals and personal care homes, conduct adult Bible classes, serve as ushers at church worship services, attend meetings of church boards, perform church custodial duties and sing in senior choirs.
