The marigolds are in! The flowerbeds are planted! Now all we need is some sun!
The Gimli Garden Club has completed the plantings of the flowerbeds at the Library, the barrels and flowerbed at Harbour Park, the raised beds at the Gimli Park and the tree wells. For those many people who enquired “Why marigolds?’’, we chose these hardy plants because sometimes these fiowers are abused (pulled up, stepped on, butted out) and they just keep growing.
There are a number of people and organizations to thank for their contributions.
The Gimli Credit Union provided both financial support and the denim shirts you see the Garden Club members wearing. The Kiwanis Club and the Kinettes gave generous financial support. The Rotary Club treated us to a lovely dinner and presented plaques of recognition for each member. Kris’s Fish’n’Chips provided free coffee and ice cream for the gardeners. Other businesses on First provided water and moral support during the Saturday morning planting. Thank you all. Early one Saturday morning some Minerva 4Hers and their parents joined the Garden Club to plant marigolds in the tree wells along First Avenue and part of Centre Street. A few days later, the Girl Guides and Brownies, along with their leaders and parents, helped complete the tree well plantings on Centre Street. We thank them for their tremendous efforts. These young people were wonderful assistants and they made the work more enjoyable.
A big thank you goes to the Gimli Art Club for the use of their facilities and their instruction assisting Garden Club members in decorating their tee shirts. You will notice some Garden Club members wearing these hand painted creations with the words “Gimli Garden Club Volunteer” on the back. This wording is to dispel the myth that we are paid for our gardening efforts.
We thank Jack Feschuk, his employees and the LUD Committee for their efforts and assistance on our behalf. Also thanks to Bill and Marion Gale for their carpentry efforts in placing the ties around a flowerbed at the Information Centre.
Last and definitely not least, we thank the spouses who put so much physical and emotional effort into our endeavours. Together we have added some colour to our community for everyone to enjoy. Please help us take care of it.
