Interlake Spectator — A crumbling concrete fence, surrounding the Gimli Cemetery on PR, 222 north of Gimli, was recently torn down and replaced with a new steel chain fence.
Les Einarson, member of the Gimli Community Cemetery committee, and volunteers Tom Hussey, George Bergen and Everett Lloyd oversaw the installation of the new 1,200-ft. fence after the RM removed the old concrete footings bordering the cemetery.
“The old concrete was irreparable and this was long overdue,” Einarson explained.
Jim Hull of the Kiwanis Club of Gimli and Bob Munro, representing the Westshore Community Foundation were on-hand to present a cheque for $500 each to the cemetery committee’s Dilla Narfason and Einarson. A donation of $500 from the Gimli Old Timers Committee (2003) was also greatly appreciated.
Both Narfason and Einarson expressed their thanks to the organizations and individuals who support the Gimli Community Cemetery’s ongoing upgrades.
